Norsk Hydro, the Norwegian energy, aluminium and chemicals group, and the German gas transportation and supply company, WINGAS GmbH, have decided to set up a joint venture for the marketing and sales of natural gas in the UK.
The first cut of the spade: Wolfgang Brinkmann, Chairman of Stadtwerke Bielefeld, and Dr. Gerhard König, Chairman and Executive Director of WINGAS Sales and Marketing Division, today (24 Sept. 2003) made the symbolic first cut of the spade and thus launched construction of new natural gas conditioning plant on the premises of the firm Mitsubishi HiTech Paper GmbH.
Open borders, a European single market - they may be a matter of course now for many commodity flows, but this positive development is still in its beginning stages in the energy market.
Some 17 billion cubic metres of natural gas a year are currently consumed in Belgium. Natural gas as a proportion of primary energy consumption in Belgium stands at around 23 % (in Germany it is approximately 22 %).
Against the background of progressively more liberalised European markets, WINGAS is decisively writing the next chapter in its ongoing success story which has now run for more than 10 years.
Die WINGAS GmbH, Kassel, is to take a 25-percent stake in HubCo-North West European Hub Service Company GmbH (HubCo) based in Haan/Düsseldorf. The deal has already been approved by the authorities.
