Kassel. The Flemish government is campaigning for natural gas-based mobility: Since January 1, 2016, natural gas vehicles are exempt from vehicle and registration taxes. The Flemish Energy Minister Annemie Turtelboom also announced at a press conference on January 14, 2016, during the European Motor Show, the construction of 308 new natural gas stations by 2020. In addition, the Belgian Association for Natural Gas Vehicles (ARGB) is encouraging the purchase of a natural gas vehicle with a bonus of up to €1000 at the European Motor Show. With the financial incentives and the expansion of the tank network, the government hopes for a renewed increase of natural gas vehicles in Belgium. Currently there are almost 2000 natural gas vehicles registered in Belgium – and the trend is rising.
