Zukunft ERDGAS presents annual report
Kassel. "Natural gas will play a major and even stronger role in the German energy mix, also in the long term," is how Dr. Tim Kehler, president of Zukunft ERDGAS e.V., sums up the results of a new market forecast which the association presented at the E-world as part of the 2015 natural gas annual report. According to the report, Germany's CO2 emissions can be reduced by around a third to 524 million tons annually until 2035 – and efficient natural gas technologies can make a critical contribution to this reduction. At the same time, the market share of natural gas will therefore increase from 21 percent today to 27 percent in 2035.
The market forecast is the first market estimate that takes into account the national political decisions taken in 2015 such as the Action Programme on Climate Protection 2020, the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan and the amended CHP Law. "The political decisions taken in 2015 point the way to ensuring lower emissions, reduced power consumption and a stronger role of natural gas as a source of energy," explained Kehler. Zukunft Erdgas is supported by companies from the German natural gas industry.
