Phasing out nuclear power

GASWINNER with new issue online

Kassel. Germany intends to phase out nuclear power by 2022 at the latest. Yet it often takes decades to dismantle a nuclear power plant. Our reportage in the current issue of GASWINNER on one of the world’s largest projects to dismantle a nuclear power plant in the north-east of Germany highlights the technical challenges that experts at the Greifswald nuclear power plant must overcome. An informative diagram also illustrates the various stages in the dismantling process.

In the latest issue you can also find out what is behind the fluctuations in the oil price seen in recent months and what energy suppliers are doing to make sure they don’t lost their customers to other providers via online services like Verivox, Check24 or Toptarif.

In another article our authors investigate the ideas from nature that inspire technical developments in the energy sector. Did you know, for example, that there are solar collectors that are built based on the structure of leaf veins, and that the heat insulation properties of polar bear furs serve as a model for housing insulation?
