Storage for the European market | website www.astora.de now online | Andreas Renner is the new managing director
Kassel. The storage company astora officially commenced its operations today with its entry in the commercial register: “With capacities totalling six billion cubic metres, astora is one of the largest storage operators in Europe,” announces astora Managing Director Andreas Renner. “We are making an important contribution towards securing Europe’s energy supply with natural gas through our storage facilities in Rehden in Lower Saxony, Haidach in Austria and the Jemgum storage facility project on the German-Dutch border.” Around 2.5 million European households can be supplied with gas for a whole year from astora’s storage facilities.
astora’s portfolio is of great interest to natural gas suppliers and spot market traders alike. “We are therefore confident that the new company will successfully compete on the market,” says Renner. By hiving off its storage activities into an independent company, the natural gas trader WINGAS is fulfilling the requirements of the third liberalisation package of the EU. Storage activities were already unbundled within the company in 2006. “We will continue to be an equally strong and reliable partner for our customers under the astora flag. With ‘smart storage solutions’, our goal is to make our customers even more successful,” explains Renner.
Following the storage company’s entry in the commercial register, astora’s website is also being unveiled in a brand new design featuring a range of new functions. Customers and interested parties can find information about the company and its services just as before at www.astora.de. Via the website, astora customers can also make online nominations, create reports on existing contracts and reserve new storage capacities.
astora GmbH & Co. KG is headquartered in Kassel and is one of the largest natural gas storage operators in Europe. In Rehden in North Germany, the company has the largest natural gas storage facility in Western Europe – with a working gas volume of over four billion cubic meters. The storage company also holds capacity in Central Europe's second largest storage facility in Haidach, Austria. To ensure a secure supply of natural gas to Europe, a natural gas storage facility is currently being constructed in Jemgum on the German-Dutch border.
